Baccarat - rules

This is a very simple game. You bet on the winners and then watch what happens. That’s all there is to Baccarat. Unlike blackjack, you don’t need to make any decisions during the game. You can bet on yourself, the dealer or for a draw.

It involves making a bet about whose cards are going to add up closest to 9. Card values are calculated as follows:

  • Ace = 1 point
  • 2 to 9 = face value of the card (2-9)
  • 10, Jack, Queen, King = 0

And on top of that:

  • 9 and 7 don’t equal 16 but 6.
  • 3 and 8 don’t equal 11 but 1.

Therefore, it‘s impossible to have a sum greater than 9.

  • The dealer deals two cards each to the player and the banker. Cards adding up to 8 or 9 are a “natural” and additional cards are dealt.
  • In the case of draws, the bet is returned. In baccarat the player is dealt cards before the banker.
  • If neither the banker’s cards nor the player’s cards can achieve a “natural” after they have been dealt two cards each, additional cards will be dealt one at a time as described below.
  • Play:
  • A player with 6 or more must stand and receives no more cards. A card is drawn if the player has 5 or less.
  • The banker stands if he has 7 or more. If the banker has 0, 1 or 2, he must draw another card.
  • If the banker’s cards add up to 3 and the player’s third card is anything other than 8, the banker draws another card.
  • If the banker has 4 and the player’s third card is not a 1, 8, 9 or 0, the banker draws another card.
  • If the banker has 5 and the player’s cards equal 4, 5, 6, or 7, the banker draws another card.
  • If the banker has 6 and the player’s third card is 6 or 7, the banker draws another card.
  • Bets are paid out in online baccarat at 1:1, no matter whether you bet on yourself or the dealer. Bets on a tie are paid out at 8 to 1.
